Brent Peterson Carpenter, Christchurch
It is the involvement in new projects from
the planning and development stages right
through to watching the public enjoy the new
facilities that makes Brent Peterson's job
with City Care so rewarding.
As a carpenter with City Care and previously
Christchurch City Council for over 16 years,
Brent has been involved in projects ranging
from maintenance of council housing units to
the maintenance and renovation projects he
has been working on for the last three years
at Christchurch's QEII complex.
"We have rebuilt all the staff offi ces here and
the staff cafeteria, remodelled the public
cafeteria, remodelled the diving pool...
it's endless really. We do anything and
everything. It's not like an ordinary carpentry
job. You really have to be a jack of all trades."
Brent fi nds the challenges of being
independent and partially self-suffi cient an
added bonus.
"We get to make our own decisions to a
certain extent and have to be able to think
on our feet and solve problems."
