Can you believe that the "Taste of Grand Rapids & Barbecue Championship" is
in its 7th year?
It's hard to believe the small tournament that began in 1999 has grown into the
State Championship of Michigan, attracting nearly 50 teams in 2004. We are
hopeful that 2005 will be even bigger and better in our new location at John Ball
Park.
John Ball Park is a beautiful Kent County Park in the heart of Grand Rapids with
plenty of grass and trees. It is a perfect setting for the "Taste of Grand Rapids &
Barbecue Championship."
We are still in the process of determining the size of booth spaces, but wanted
to get our application form out to you as quickly as we could. When we com-
pleted the deal to have the "Taste of Grand Rapids & Barbecue Championship"
at John Ball Park, we had a foot of snow on the ground. Unlike previous
years, space is limited this year and we will be taking teams on a first
come, first serve basis. When we run out of room, we will no longer be
able to accept any additional teams.
We will again be hosting our "Taste of Grand Rapids" segment over the entire
weekend with approximately 25 area restaurants selling "tastes" and "samples"
from their menu to the general public. We will also have live Classic Rock and
Country entertainment on our main stage and plenty of activities and fun for chil-
dren and their families.
If you have been a part of our Barbecue Competition in past years, we know you
will be coming back in 2005. Please be patient with us during our location
change. We are hopeful that John Ball Park will be our permanent home for
many years to come.
